In this car polishing course, we go through the entire process of correcting car paint, from preparing the surface and choosing the right tools, to refining the finish and protecting it afterwards. The goal is a practical, step-by-step explanation of how polishing actually works, so you can correct paint safely and get a high gloss, professional result. Everything is broken down into short lessons you can follow at your own pace, whether you are starting from zero or already polishing and looking to improve your technique. What the course covers: • How automotive paint is built, and which layer you're actually working on • Reading defects: swirl marks, scratches, holograms and water spots • Washing, decontamination, claying and masking before the machine • Wool, microfiber and foam pads, and compounds from heavy cut to super finish • Rotary versus dual action — how each behaves and how to use both safely • One step correction for paying jobs, multi step for deeper defects • Waxes, ceramic coatings and PPF, and how long each really lasts • Headlight restoration, from sanding to protecting the lens • Setting expectations when polishing is a paid service Understanding the paint We start with what car paint is actually made of. Every car has several layers: primer, base coat and clear coat. The clear coat is the only layer we work on. It gives the paint its shine and protects the colour underneath, but over time it gets damaged by washing, UV exposure and everyday use. That is where swirl marks, scratches, holograms and water spots come from, and understanding this is what tells you which of them you can fix and which you cannot. Preparation Before any machine touches the surface, the paint has to be washed and decontaminated. We cover how to assess the condition of the paint, how to remove bonded contamination with a clay bar, how to mask off trim, and how to set up your working space so you are not fighting your own equipment. Machines, pads and compounds You will learn the difference between a rotary and a dual action machine, how each one behaves on the paint, and how to use both without risking damage. We go through wool, microfiber and foam pads, how each one cuts, and how compounds are graded from heavy cut through to super finish. Most importantly, you will learn how to combine machine, pad and compound to match the level of damage in front of you, instead of guessing. One step and multi step correction There is a full lesson on each. One step correction is about maximum gloss in minimum time, and is what most paying jobs actually call for. Multi step correction is about removing deeper defects without cutting away too much clear coat, which is where the real skill and the real risk are. You will see both, including how to inspect your work between steps and when to stop. Protection and finishing Correction is only half the job. We cover detailing sprays, paste and carnauba waxes, ceramic coatings and paint protection film: how each one works, how to apply it, and how long it realistically lasts compared to what the label claims. There is also a dedicated lesson on headlight restoration, from sanding through to protecting the lens. Working with customers A bonus lesson covers polishing as a service: how to assess a car before quoting, how to set realistic expectations with the customer, and how to price the work based on the time and risk involved. There is also a lesson clearing up the most common myths about polishing, which are worth knowing both for your own work and for explaining the process to clients. By the end of the course you will understand how paint behaves, why defects appear, and exactly how to correct them safely and efficiently, with the confidence to take on any car that comes through the door.
